From Offcuts to Art: The Story Behind a Unique Jewellery Collaboration

At Savernake Knives, we’ve always taken pride in the individuality of our work—from bespoke knife designs to the vivid, one-of-a-kind handle materials that set our blades apart. But every now and then, something truly special happens when creativity spills beyond the workshop walls. This is one of those times.

What began as a casual exchange of offcuts has blossomed into a beautiful collaboration with jewellery designer and maker Rachel Stanton—an artist who shares our passion for craftsmanship, material integrity, and a bit of unexpected magic.

Rachel’s journey into jewellery-making began with a silver workshop gifted by a friend. That single day unlocked a world of creativity that she continued to explore alongside a demanding career in healthcare. Over the years, her hobby evolved into a full-time pursuit, honed through hands-on learning with talented jewellers and her own innate curiosity. Today, she works predominantly in Sterling Silver, using techniques like casting, etching, and her latest discovery—stone cutting—to bring her ideas to life.

Her latest pieces feature cabochons she cut and polished herself from our knife handle offcuts. These fragments—leftover from our resin-based Stratus range—are byproducts of a sustainable process we’ve long embraced. Inspired by Fordite, we collect excess resin in troughs and buckets, reworking it into handles with vivid striations and colourful layers. Even the scraps from this process, too irregular for knife handles, find new life in Rachel’s studio.

Each pendant Rachel creates carries a story—formed from waste of the waste, as she so perfectly puts it. Set in polished Sterling Silver with thoughtful touches like open-backed bezels, hidden bails, and elegant chains, the pieces evoke landscapes, oceanscapes, and memories from childhood. More than jewellery, they’re small works of art, touched by the hand of a maker who values every stage of the process—from raw material to polished finish.

What unites us in this collaboration isn’t just a shared material or aesthetic—it’s a belief in transformation. That beauty can come from what others might discard. That craftsmanship matters. And that the best stories often begin in unexpected places.
