English Brown Oak Set

We are a lucky enough to have some fantastic wood suppliers, and we’re always on the look out for striking pieces of timber and at the moment we have some fantastic brown oak. It’s got a bit of burl, a touch of figuring, some heavy (and light pipping) and everything in between.

We use a red liner to set off the oak to its fullest effect, and also to harken back to the traditional use of red leather as an adhesive-saturated interface back when glue wasn’t very good and there needed to be a mechanism for dealing with wood – especially feature oak – wanting to move and expand and contract with the seasons.

The knives for this set cover almost all of your tasks in the kitchen – the Stout Yeoman for precision and hand work, the Mini Cleaver for shredding veg like there’s no tomorrow, the impeccable Workhorse main chef’s knife and our rarely-made (because it’s a swine to do!) Chef’s Carver with a lovely 26cm blade.

The honing steel, used lightly and frequently, will keep your knives in tip-top condition for years to come, and you can choose to display your knives with one of our plain oak magnetic knife stands if you wish.

Please note that this wood is the ultimate in ‘variable material’! We will only select the most interesting pieces of timber from our stash, but every knife is going to be very different from every other!!
