Permanently on the hunt for lovely bits of timber, we’ve managed to get hold of a good supply of some absolutely fantastic pippy/burr British Oak. Each handle will be magnificently unique – but if you order two or more blades, then we’ll be sure to use neighbouring blanks from the larger piece of timber, so as to ensure the handles are not a million miles apart.

A long time ago, when glue was rubbish, knife-makers used to use a strip of leather in between the wood and the metal of the handle. This would move and flex as the wood expanded and contracted over the seasons, and so ensure the handle didn’t work itself loose. In this day and age of kiln-dried timber, superior epoxy and 2-tonne rivets we’ve moved on, but we’ve always loved the idea behind it and hence why all of our knives have a distinctive liner.

For reasons lost in the mist of time, red leather was relatively cheap to get hold of, and so a very classic British handle design would have seen native timber paired up with a distinctive red strip, and so the inspiration for this little collection came about.

With knives ranging from the Stout Yeoman utility through to the substantial Workhorse, there’s a blade for all tasks.

The collection will be in stock as long as we can get our mitts on the necessary timber – if we go out of stock it means we’re back to searching the length and breadth of the land for the requisite pieces.
